As the inventor of Dressage to Music as a competitive sport with Jennie Loriston-Clarke in 1980, Gaynor creates the music for riders to give joy and pleasure to the riders and the Demonstrations have always been in aid of charities, so over the years is proud do have donated to so many.
Gaynor does not make any financial gain out of either creating the music or performing. The costs she ncurs in creating the music for everyone, cost of travel to venues, hire of venues are recouped from riders, but are nonprofit making, and could be considered her hobby. Gaynor as the inventor of the sport continues to enjoy creating the music, and gets immense pride from the performances of the riders using her music, whether they win or not.
Dressage to Music should be beautiful to watch, with music which enhances the performance, and reflects the dynamics, tempos and transitions. It is really important to capture the horses's personality, and choose music which reflects their name. We invented the sport to be the Dancing Horses that Horse and Hound bestowed on myself the my various teams throughout the years.
To help riders who want to improve their Dressage to Music skills, or want to start in Dressage to Music, I am covering the UK with a 2026 Tour of Dressage to Music Clinics and Demos. These will cover EVERYTHING anyone could want to know about doing Dressage to Music. All the Demos are in aid of various Charities, and the Clinics are done at cost, so heavily subsidised so everyone can get involved heavily subsidised so everyone can get involved.
There are, as mentioned before, 2 types of music fore dressage, Bespoke/Tailor Made from inception, recorded from scratch to be tailored to you, your horse, your test, and Patch and Pasted which uses music from a pre-recorded permitted play list. Bespoke can never be the same as anyone elses’s music, as it is played and recorded ONLY for you, patch and pasted music will not be unique, as all the music comes from a permitted play list, thus not bespoke.
There is no right or wrong in your choice, although it is best to understand whether you are paying for unique recordings, or music hundreds of others may be using. Always ask where the music is sourced from.
